Sorry for the miss translate. Promise to work on it soon. This is the final resume that I have done for the winter semester exam. Of course, "always done, never done", and for that, I´ve change a big part of it, not so much the urban plan but the small scale (the ambulatory surgery center).

From top to bottom: the idea of a square - when you have a rigid ortogonal urban plan nothing seems more logic to me than starting from that. Therefore, the basic concept is to continue the original plan. The second image comes with the need of allowing people to walk though the city, and for it, openning the space looks like a great idea to me. The third image culminates the concept. This because it returns to the main intencion of the concept. In resume, I guess i can say that the 1st one is a construction of the square, the 2nd the desmaterialization of it, and the 3rd the reconstruction of the square. It´s also important to mention that the programme allows me to do this: in the ground floor there´s independent nucleus that work with no interior connection between themself. Those are the administration, the reception and also the treatment area. In the first floor there´s the surgery block and the recovery zone (and all the surounding areas needed).

The ambulatory center in a model. The idea of courtyard inside a quadrangle and the relation with the city promove a continuos area, the concept it´s a direct contact of the center with the city and the surounding space. There are no limits between the public space and the private one. Light and matter are clearly appart, conducting people by pathways.

This is an aerial view of the space we have to treat on the past semester. One of the squares as been object of study, considering that the exercise has two parts: the first part was urban planning, the second one was a more controlled space (around 6000 m2), in order to project a surgical ambulatory center (small and quick surgery as vascular surgery). Although we are talking about to differents exercises, the concept as well as the main idea must work as one, an the square should be integrated in the city, not be an independent object merely sculptural. The next image represents the firsts ideas and concepts.
Representation of the variety of urban plans we can have. (as the model - in a small scale, NY, Toronto, Barcelona and others with the ortogonal plan)

Winter Semester. First year of master in Univ Lusiada. Representation through a model of city of Espinho. Principal observation: small city but still has the same principal of barcelona and ny when it comes to organization fo territory: extremely rigid ortogonal urban design.
